London Economics were commissioned to estimate the economic and social impact of Leeds Trinity University. The key findings were as follows:

The total economic impact on the UK economy associated with Leeds Trinity University’s activities in 2021-22 was estimated at £657 million.

In terms of the components of this impact,

  • the value of the University’s teaching and learning stood at £554 million (84% of total); and
  • the impact associated with Leeds Trinity University’s operational and capital expenditure accounted for £103 million (16%).

In terms of the number of FTE jobs supported, the results indicate that the total impact generated by Leeds Trinity University’s activities supported a total of 915 FTE jobs across the UK economy in the 2021-22 academic year, of which 680 were located in Yorkshire and the Humber and the remaining 225 were located across the rest of the UK.

Compared to the University’s total operational costs of approximately £48 million in the 2021-22 academic year, the total impact of Leeds Trinity University’s activities on the UK economy was estimated at £657 million, which corresponds to a benefit to cost ratio of approximately 13.7:1.
