London Economics were commissioned to assess the economic impact of the University of Warwick, focusing on the 2022-23 academic year. The total economic impact of the University’s activities on the UK economy in 2022-23 was estimated at approximately £3.8 billion. Of this total:
- The University’s research and knowledge exchange activities accounted for £1.1 billion of this impact;
- The value of the University of Warwick’s teaching and learning activities stood at £1.0 billion;
- The impact associated with the University’s international students was estimated at £984 million; and
- The impact generated by the operating and capital expenditures of the University stood at £731 million.
In terms of employment, the University’s activities supported a total of approximately 17,700 FTE jobs across the UK economy in 2022-23, including 12,000 in the West Midlands region.
The University’s benefit-to-cost ratio has increased from 4.9:1 in 2016-17 to 5.3:1 in 2022-23.
