John Curnow is a Partner at London Economics, working in their public policy practice. He recently joined from the UK’s Ministry of Defence, where he was Director of Analysis and Performance and led their economics and analysis teams. Prior to this, John had an extensive career across economics, public policy, strategy and delivery roles including as Director of Analysis and Chief Economist at UK’s Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), and Economics Director at Monitor (now part of NHS England). John’s work has included economic interventions to support UK growth policy and the economic response to Covid; the range of trade and other economic, environmental and food policy issues associated with UK’s exit from the EU; and NHS prices, efficiency opportunities, and workforce and pay issues.

John has also worked at HM Treasury and on transport, housing, and regeneration policy, and chaired OECD’s Environment Policy Committee from 2020 to 2022. John has been a member of the UK’s Government Economic Service Board, and the Agricultural Economics Society Executive Committee. John holds a BSc in Economics and Geography (First Class) from the University of Exeter and a MSc in Economics (Distinction) from the University of Birmingham.
