James Cannings is a Senior Economic Consultant at London Economics, working in our Education and Labour Markets practice.

Within higher education, James has led economic and social impact analyses of several higher education institutions and has worked on analysis of UK higher education fees and funding systems. He has also analysed the economic impact of different aspects of the wider higher education sector, including the benefits and costs of international students to the UK economy and the Exchequer impact of the Graduate Route.

Within labour markets, James has strong knowledge of the labour market for healthcare professionals, with a particular focus on the nursing labour market, having undertaken work for the Royal College of Nursing and the Department for Work and Pensions. In other projects for government clients, he has examined the impact of automation on the labour market and the economic and social impact of volunteering.

He holds an MSc (cum laude) in Economic and Social Sciences from Bocconi University and a BA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Oxford.
