London Economics were commissioned by Ofqual to undertake a mystery shopping exercise of ‘student support’ services available online. To undertake the independent research, London Economics engaged with a number of online companies who offer to write essays for students. The commissioned essays were passed on to experts at Ofqual for subsequent marking, which demonstrated that, more often than not, the quality of the essays was sub-standard and offered poor returns to students.
