London Economics were commissioned by the Department for Business Innovation and Skills to undertake a detailed assessment of the value of educational imports from the United Kingdom economy. Where possible, the analysis consisted of an assessment of the value of higher education tuition fee and non tuition fee expenditure along with the value of research grants and contracts, transnational education, alumni donations, as well as the value of university spin outs and the licensing of intellectual property overseas. The analysis was replicated for Further Education. We also assessed the export value of the English Language training sector, independent primary and secondary schools, publishing, broadcasting, educational supplies, and examination awarding bodies.
